Finally got round to planting some broad beans into pots, helped by the higher temperatures at the moment – today for instance the greenhouse was at 16degC and outside over 12degC.
So into a couple of small matrix pots (6 spaces) I’ve planted 6 of ‘De Monica’ and 6 of ‘Aquadulce Claudia’, from packs I used last year.
Recently I picked up a couple of packets of broad beans of varieties I don’t think I’ve grown before so I thought I’d give them a try. One is ‘Meteor’ – supposed to be an early variety but won’t be from these ones planted in Feb I suspect. The other is called ‘Optica’, this is a ‘modern’ variety which grows lower and a ‘good cropper’ (don’t they always say that!).
Today I planted 6 ‘Meteor’ in separate pots and 12 (3 per pot) of the ‘Optica’. Now we’ll see how long it take far anything to turn up…
Meanwhile I just glance at the mess that is the flower beds – still haven’t uprooted all last year’s annuals. Plus there are still 2 or 3 of the raised beds to be tidied up.
